I still like that video and I’m a very long ways past being a kid.
Have you seen the movie coming out this year?
Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
It’s probably best you don’t know about Entrecard, cause as a Today.com blogger, you won’t be able to use it anyway. It’s an ad share type network site. When you visit sites and you see the widget with the yellow Entrecard box below it (or beside it in some cases), that’s what it is. Entrecard users visit those sites with the box and hit the yellow bar. This is called dropping, and you get a credit for each time you hit a box. The more boxes you hit (which means the more sites you visit), the more credits you get. You can then use those credits to purchase ads on other people’s Entrecard widgets. Depending on the popularity of the site and the demand on the widget, the price in credits varies.
It’s a great traffic driver, because people now have incentive to visit your site. They get a credit for doing so, and your traffic increases.
However, Entrecard is feeling the effects of the economy like everyone else. They are now opening the network to outside ads, so now when you purchase an ad on someone’s widget, it will rotate with outside commercial ads.
This does not jive with Today.com’s policies.
It’s probably just as well. Entrecard traffic is kind of empty traffic. People typically just hit your card and close out, but don’t stay to read, and therefore don’t stay to look at any ads. You may have a lot of hits, but those are no more valuable than no hits at all when people just “drop and run.”
I’m no expert, and I’m learning all this myself. Obviously, you need to make sure your blog is fresh and interesting. You can build a loyal audience, but if they keep coming back to your site to see the same old stale thing, they’ll stop coming. Comment on other blogs as much as possible. I’ve found that proper blog etiquette is to return a comment. If you drop a note on my site, I’ll drop a note on yours. If I like the site, I’ll bookmark it and come back in the future.
Since Entrecard was my primary traffic driver, I’m now experimenting with other techniques. I am having some luck with Twitter, and I’ve joined some other networking sites that are relevant to my blog topic.
It’s A LOT of work. You have to invest a ton of time getting out there and building up a following. But you’re making friends at the same time, so it’s all good.
