It only takes a second

Just hearing the news about Mike Tyson’s 4 year old dying due to strangulation sends chills through my entire body.  We take such great pains in caring for our children, we watch over them as best we can, but the truth is: it only takes a second for tragedy to strike.  We turn our backs for even a second and the worst CAN happen–and often does.  It is scary that you can tell your kids HUNDREDS of times not to play with wires, cords, string, ropes, plastic bags –anything that can cause harm but there is no guarantee that they will listen, or remember  or even that their curiosity won’t get the better of their good senses.  As a pre-k teacher I see these little ones just acting on impulse–it is constant!  They don’t think about consequences, they don’t realize that someone can get hurt, and they don’t really respond to the teacher saying:  Hey–danger!  They don’t see the jump rope as a hazard, they don’t realize that running with scissors is dangerous.  They don’t sit right on the chair day after day and no matter how many times I say:  Sit right you are going to fall, they still sit sideways or on their knees and they fall off the chair 2 times a week.  No matter how many times they have proof that what we are saying is true:  ie falling off the chair hurts, they will continue to do what they want to do.  Well, we all know too well that there is no reasoning with the little ones, so….I guess what this all boils down to is this:  WE CAN’T LEAVE THEM EVEN FOR A SECOND!  My  heart goes out to Mike Tyson’s family.  I can’t imagine the pain that they are going through right now.

“Angel and Sheep”

http://www.youtube.com/v/<object width=

This is a sweet little video that the creator made for a couple of her friends.  I am not sure what the part about the “lanolin” is all about but the video itself is cute and the end message is sweet.  if someone can explain the lanolin part please leave a comment.

A Great Father’s Day Present!

Ever wish you could watch a specific movie uninterrupted by commercials no matter where you are?  My husband sure does!  When you have two little kids running about the house, its hard to enjoy a movie, especially when the kids are parked in front of the television watching Sponge Bob or Wow Wow Wubbzy!  I am considering signing the hubby up for this site I just found.  If and when I do sign him up he can watch whatever he wants, where he wants as long as he has his  laptop or the PC and an internet connection.  The site allows you to stream your favorite movies, t.v. shows,  music videos, sporting events, even radio.  For more info click on this link and find out if they have a package that is right for you.  This isn’t a free service, but hey, not much is free these days.  Besides, this would make a GREAT father’s day present, birthday or even anniversary gift for the man in your life!   Think of all the sports he can view ON DEMAND even when the kids are monopolizing the family room television!  Priceless in his perspective too.  =)    Here is the link to check out the site.

Goodnight Moon, the Classic Bedtime Story Brought to You in a Video

http://www.youtube.com/v/<object width=

I guess it is the simplicity of the story that makes this a favorite for little ones and Moms and Dads too.  I still remember reading this over and over to my now 6 year old.  Oh where does the time go?  Enjoy this video of the classic tale.

Willy Wonka’s Veruca Salt–Where is She Now?

Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory’s Julie Dawn Cole–Where is she now?  I am adding this for the person who keeps commenting about my other Willy Wonka article–I hope you enjoy this one as much as the Charlie article.  =)

We all know her as Veruca Salt, the biggest, brattiest, demanding, diva-licious character found in all the childrens’ movies of the 1970’s. She will be remembered forever and immortalized as daddy’s little girl; the angel with horns who wants what she wants and “wants it now!” and actually gets it. She’s the girl whose daddy had his factory workers shed millions of candy wrappers to ensure her a spot in the factory, the seemingly dainty girl with the lovely fur lined-coat that I thought was so pretty, and the first child to sign the infamous Wonka contract. Veruca was, in my eyes, probably the most fun to watch. There is something so fun in watching a real BRAT act out and then in the end getting what he/she deserves and she played that part perfectly! She was very pretty –although I thought her hair needed a good styling (it always seemed to be needing a simple brushing) but as the old saying goes: “Beauty is only skin deep. Once she opened her mouth, you saw her flaws. The actress who portrayed her is Julie Dawn Cole and she has quite a long list of credits on her resume. Ms. Cole claims that every bit of her snippy attitude was coached and very un-like her true personality. She said she had to be “coached” on how to act like a brat.  (Hard to believe because she did it so well!) There was, however, a bit of real rivalry between her and the actress who played Violet because they both admittedly had crushes on Peter Ostrum who played Charlie. Julie Dawn Cole is the only child from the film who is still acting. She has over 40 TV shows and films (she continues to work in England as an actress) listed in her past and present acting credits. She appeared as “a regular” in several hit shows in England.  She is also a fully trained fitness instructor, but she now spends most of her time running a children’s drama school outside of London.  She has two children and has been known to call her daughter Veruca when she acts bratty.   Julie Dawn Cole  receives no royalties from Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory.  Strangely, the movie did not do very well at the box office when it was released.  The sponsor of the movie thought it tanked so badly that they never sponsored a movie again!  Ms. Cole says that she is still in possession of the original Golden Ticket and the Everlasting Gobstopper that she was given as a prop when making the film. She was supposed to return both. I guess she is a little bit Veruca after all!

She was a bad egg!
