A Great Father’s Day Present!

Ever wish you could watch a specific movie uninterrupted by commercials no matter where you are?  My husband sure does!  When you have two little kids running about the house, its hard to enjoy a movie, especially when the kids are parked in front of the television watching Sponge Bob or Wow Wow Wubbzy!  I am considering signing the hubby up for this site I just found.  If and when I do sign him up he can watch whatever he wants, where he wants as long as he has his  laptop or the PC and an internet connection.  The site allows you to stream your favorite movies, t.v. shows,  music videos, sporting events, even radio.  For more info click on this link and find out if they have a package that is right for you.  This isn’t a free service, but hey, not much is free these days.  Besides, this would make a GREAT father’s day present, birthday or even anniversary gift for the man in your life!   Think of all the sports he can view ON DEMAND even when the kids are monopolizing the family room television!  Priceless in his perspective too.  =)    Here is the link to check out the site.

Goodnight Moon, the Classic Bedtime Story Brought to You in a Video

http://www.youtube.com/v/<object width=

I guess it is the simplicity of the story that makes this a favorite for little ones and Moms and Dads too.  I still remember reading this over and over to my now 6 year old.  Oh where does the time go?  Enjoy this video of the classic tale.

Today.com Writers PLEASE Help me out!

help.jpg   Hi fellow Today.com writers,

I am hoping that I get some thumbs up on this one because I need a lot of help.  I need a huge MOMMY MIRACLE of EPIC PROPORTION HERE.  Let me try to be as brief as possible.  I am (amazingly) a finalist in a rather large contest that is going on over at profitablemommyblogging.com where the winner will receive a long established blog loaded with lots of goodies which hopefully will prove to be of financial assistance to me and my family should I win.  WE (my family) NEED to win this.  I don’t want to weigh this post down with all of the hardships that we are going through right now, because I am trying to keep it positive, but let me just say that winning the blog would help us to keep our home which we are in danger of losing after my husband took a pay cut when he changed jobs (he was laid off several times from the carpenter’s job he had) and now works for the NYC Sanitation.  I am a part time pre-k teacher.    My attitude is that Jesus always feeds the sparrow and I know that God will provide for us, no matter what… I am thinking that maybe this blog is God’s way of helping me feed my baby birds.  To be honest, if I don’t win, I will know that it isn’t God’s will, but I don’t think I should just sit back and let the opportunity to win this blog pass–so here I am asking for the kindness of strangers and friends.  In order to win, I need to receive the most votes over at the contest page.  To be honest… I am getting my BUTT KICKED just about completely.  My family and friends have all voted, my pre-k kiddies and their parents have voted and I am still behind.  If any of you could find it in your hearts to click on the link for the contest and vote for me I would be completely grateful to you.  If you could pass along this post to anyone else that you think would like to help I would also be grateful.  The great thing for you is that when you leave your comment it leaves a footnote of your last blog post so you would potentially be bringing traffic back here to today.com!  It would be great if we covered the comments section with Today.com comments!  I will of course give shout outs to my peeps at Today.com if I win and continue writing over here as well.  This is still my home sweet home.  Okay—I have made this longer than I expected to.  If you feel compelled to vote for this mommy to take over the mommy blog and to win the contest PLEASE vote for me.

Here’s how:  go to:  http://www.profitablemommyblogging.com/profitable-mommy-blogging-18-the-giveaway-part-two/       Once there, scroll down to the bottom of the comments and leave your own.  You would be voting for me (I hope!) Cheryl Nelson.  Feel free to write your name and shout out to today.com  too in the comment.  They will ask for your name and email address and it will post a link to your blog too.  Thanks so much to all of you who take the time to vote me up and pass this on to your friends here on Today.com and all over the world!  LOL.  I can’t win without MOMMY POWER! and Today.com bloggers!   God Bless all.  =)

xoxo Cheryl xoxo

Darn You CARVEL ICE CREAM CAKE…Darn you!

carvel-cake.jpg

There you sat on the top shelf of the freezer…

The remnants of a four year old’s birthday splendor.

There I hoped you’d stay

for the love of my hips, I dared not put a morsel to my lips.

But THEY knew you were there,

THEY just had to have you.

You called to them like a stray cat on a dark foggy night.

“I must have a piece of that cake,” Speaks the little one.

“Please mother, just one little little teeney tiny piece”  Chimes in the eldest.

I held you in my trembling hands

In a box with a frosty window.

You peeked out at me with your superhero eyes of blue…

but I was stronger than that, my resistance was strong.

I cut your chest up and put it on two plates

and bid you adieu.

I watched as you began to disappear

and laughed as your blue icing coated two little faces.

Until you returned only half eaten.

Two plates of your finely chiseled chest taunting me,

Whispering to me,  All this could be yours.

Calling me in a voice that sounded like Barry White.

“Oh BABY–You’re my first, my last, my everything.”

Oh Superman Carvel Ice Cream Cake…

You had me at hello.

And now, I sit here with hand upon by stomach

Wishing I hadn’t been so tempted and realizing that

Not only are you high in calories and have cost me one dress size,

But also that

I must be lactose intolerant.

DARN YOU CARVEL ICE CREAM CAKE, DARN YOU TO THE UNDERWORLD.

An Original Poem by me:   Cheryl Nelson Handley

I thought I would post a silly joke today.

What is the difference between Roast Beef and Pea Soup?

Anyone can roast beef but no one can pee soup!

“NEED WASHING”

trust-jesus.gif

This story was sent to me by Jennifer Park.  I thought it deserved to be seen by the world.  The author is unknown.  Thanks Jennifer!

A little girl had been shopping with her Mom in Target. She must have been 6 years old, this beautiful red haired, freckle faced image of innocence. It was pouring outside. The kind of rain that gushes over the top of rain gutters, so much in a hurry to hit the earth it has no time to flow down the spout. We all stood there under the awning and just inside the door of the Target. We waited, some patiently, others irritated because nature messed up their hurried day. I am always mesmerized by rainfall. I got lost in the sound and sight of the heavens washing away the dirt and dust of the world. Memories of running, splashing so carefree as a child came pouring in as a welcome reprieve from the worries of my day. The little voice was so sweet as it broke the hypnotic trance we were all caught in ‘Mom let’s run through the rain,’ she said ‘What?’ Mom asked. ‘Lets run through the rain !’ She repeated ‘No, honey. We’ll wait until it slows down a bit,’ Mom replied. This young child waited about another minute and repeated: ‘Mom, let’s run through the rain,’ ‘We’ll get soaked if we do,’ Mom said. ‘No, we won’t, Mom.. That’s not what you said this morning,’ the young girl said as she tugged at her Mom’s arm. This morning ?When did I say we could run through the rain and not get wet? ‘Don’t you remember? When you were talking to Daddy about his cancer, you said, ‘If God can get us through this, he can get us through anything!’ The entire crowd stopped dead silent. I swear you couldn’t hear anything but the rain. We all stood silently. No one came or left in the next few minutes.Mom paused and thought for a moment about what she would say. Now some would laugh it off and scold her for being silly. Some might even ignore what was said. But this was a moment of affirmation in a young child’s life. A time when innocent trust can be nurtured so that it will bloom into faith. ‘Honey, you are absolutely right. Let’s run through the rain. If GOD let’s us get wet, well maybe we just needed washing,’ Mom said. Then off they ran. We all stood watching, smiling and laughing as they darted past the cars and yes, through the puddles. They held their shopping bags over their heads just in case. They got soaked. But they were followed by a few who screamed and laughed like children all the way to their cars. And yes, I did. I ran. I got wet. I needed washing. Circumstances or people can take away your material possessions, they can take away your money, and they can take away your health. But no one can ever take away your precious memories…So, don’t forget to make time and take the opportunities to make memories everyday. To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven. I HOPE YOU STILL TAKE THE TIME TO RUN THROUGH THE RAIN. They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them. Send this to the people you’ll never forget. It’s a short message to let them know that you’ll never forget them. If you don’t send it to anyone, it means you’re in a hurry. Take the time to live!!! Keep in touch with your friends, you never know when you’ll need each other — and don’t forget to run in the rain !
